This serie of artworks was made during the confinement period in France, between March and May 2020.
After completing a bachelor’s degree at the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts (Hangzhou), Manlin went on and got a Draughtsman-Designer Diploma (DNA) from the Émile Cohl school in Lyon, France. She is now completing a Master’s degree in Comics (Bande dessinée) in Angoulême, the French Capital of this Art.
What interests Manlin is precisely to weave links between her initial training and what she discovered in Europe. Through her practice, she likes to present a crossbreeding of cultures and genres, but also techniques, such as linking watercolour, Indian ink and computer drawing for example. These experiences result in a sublte mix of classicism and modernism, offering a new look at their culture and that of today’s world.
